Sizing up…skates

We get asked many questions about how a skate should fit. There is a lot to think about when buying a pair of jets. A player has to realize that every foot is different. We look at instep depth, heel size, as well as the usual forefoot width and length on the skate measurer. Some skates are built for the slender foot, some for the “hoof” as some of the boys call it. Thus, it is important to look at all these factors when buying.

We size a person on the skate measurer and use that as a starting point for sizing. From there, we look at the other factors mentioned above and consider budget, position being played, and how often they will be using them. If they are a recreational skater or player, it may not be as huge a concern to get it just right… usually budget plays a big part in this decision, too (and so it should – skates can get expensive!) At any rate, one should take the time to explore their options to get the best fit possible with whatever resources they have. Used skates are a great way to save money and get a higher quality skate that is already broken in and comfortable.

Feel free to drop in and get fit up. If you have questions about your skates and their fit we are happy to help and get you going in the right product.
